The Afghan Wind

Today, the sky was filled with fine sand, which made the sun look pale and the temperature go down to around 30 degrees Celsius. This kind of weather is called the ‘Afghan Wind’ because the sand is supposed to come from Afghanistan. When I looked up this term on the Internet I was surprised to a reference to an article in Russian which connect the incidence of stroke to the presence of the Afghan Wind:

A close relationship exists between the invasion of the “Afghan” wind and cerebrovascular accidents. The day before the wind coming and during the first day of its blowing the occurrence of apoplexies and lethal outcomes thereof sharply grow. [abstract]
